Description
Outdoor Planting (During Warm Months)
Choose the Right Spot: Pick a shaded or partially shaded area with indirect sunlight, as direct sun can scorch the leaves.
Soil Requirements: Use well-draining, rich soil with organic matter. A mix of peat, pine bark, and perlite works well.
Temperature Considerations: Anthuriums prefer temperatures above 60°F. In Ohio, plant them outside only from late spring to early fall.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Overwatering can cause root rot.
Humidity: Since Ohio’s climate is not naturally humid, misting the plant or placing it near a water source can help.
Bringing Indoors for Winter
Since anthuriums cannot survive Ohio’s winter temperatures, you’ll need to bring them inside:
Before temperatures drop below 50°F, transfer them into pots.
Place them in a bright, indirect light location indoors.
Continue watering sparingly and misting for humidity.
If you want to enjoy anthuriums year-round, it’s best to grow them as houseplants in Ohio and move them outside only in warm months.
